What Are Botox and Juvederm?
When Botox is injected into certain areas of the face, it stops unnecessary muscle contractions that make the skin appear wrinkled. If you seek Botox treatment from a qualified professional, there is no need to be afraid that the results will look overdone or that your face will appear “frozen.” Botox is often used to plump up the lips and get rid of lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, and more. It works only on wrinkles that are caused by facial movement, not those that are caused by natural sagging or loss of plumpness in the skin.
Juvederm works a little differently. As we age, the collagen and elastin in our faces begin to lose their structure. Thus, the skin on top of those structures sinks in and appears wrinkled. Juvederm is a dermal filler, composed primarily of hyaluronic acid, that plumps up those areas and dramatically reduces the look of wrinkles. You might choose to use it to plump up your lips, lessen the lines between your nose and your mouth, or contour your cheeks.
What is the Treatment Procedure?
Whether you are receiving Botox or Juvederm, the treatment procedure is simple and quick. After you speak to Dr. Homas and he determines that you are a good candidate for the treatment, he’ll inject the Juvederm or Botox into your skin. They’re both injected using a very fine needle, so discomfort during the procedure should be minimal. The entire process may take anywhere from just a few minutes to an hour. You’ll begin to notice results almost right away with Juvederm. With Botox, it may be a few days to a couple of weeks before it takes full effect.
Neither treatment is permanent. To maintain your new look, you will need to visit Dr. Homas periodically for touchup injections. In general, Juvederm’s results last longer than those from Botox.
What Else Should I Know about Botox and Juvederm?
As long as you are forthright with Dr. Homas about your health, and you follow his instructions for post-treatment care, the risk that you’ll experience serious side effects from either Botox or Juvederm is quite low. Most side effects are mild and include things like temporary redness and swelling at the injection sites.
Insurance does not cover either Botox or Juvederm when they’re used as a purely cosmetic measure. Therefore, you’ll need to consider your budget when you’re planning to use one of these treatments to address wrinkles.
