Cigna Dental Insurance
For our patients who have dental insurance, the New Image Dentistry team is always here to help maximize benefits. We offer a wide range of affordable dental care options, and we’re happy to process and file insurance claims to maximize benefits for most PPO dental insurance plans. Our office is also in-network with many of the most popular PPO dental insurance plans, including Cigna. If you are covered by Cigna or any PPO dental insurance plans, please let the New Image Dentistry team know before your first appointment. We’ll work with you to maximize these benefits and help you to better understand how specific treatments are covered by your plan. Please don’t hesitate to call our San Antonio dentistry team to find out more or schedule an appointment. We’ll be happy to help.
Cigna Dental Insurance Basics
Every Cigna dental insurance policy is a unique agreement between patients and their insurer. You have the opportunity to make elections that allow you to receive greater or lesser coverage, depending on your monthly premium. You will pay this monthly fee, and your insurer then covers a percentage of the price of specific treatments. While your Cigna benefit plan will vary based on your specific elections, you should expect some combination of the following:
- Preventive dentistry – to keep your smile whole and healthy, dentists and dental insurers encourage patients to maintain regular six month dental checkups, and most insurers cover between 80 and 100% of these preventive treatments.
- Restorative dentistry – when you do need restorative dentistry services, your insurer will provide between 50 and 80% coverage for conservative solutions like fillings and crowns as well as tooth replacement options like bridges and dentures.
- Orthodontics – when elected, insurance typically provides between 25 and 70% coverage for orthodontic treatment options, including traditional braces and alignment tray orthodontics.
- Miscellaneous treatments – coverage for services like mouthguards and sportsguards and sedation dentistry may also be elected under some plans.
In-Network Dental Insurance Coverage
There are two types of dental insurance plans, health maintenance organizations (HMO) and preferred provider organizations (PPO). HMO plans set strict in-network limitations on the dental offices you can visit and the treatments you can receive. PPO plans are made to be flexible, allowing you more freedom to choose the dental offices and treatments that work for you. Dentists who are in-network with PPO plans, agree to charge fees set by your insurer for covered services. Because the dentist agrees to these fees, patients will only have to pay the out of pocket percentage of treatment costs. Out of network dentists may charge higher fees than those outlined by the insurer, but you will be responsible for paying the out of pocket fees percentage of your treatment costs as well as making up the difference in pricing. Fortunately, these differences in pricing are typically minimal, but when you visit our in-network dental offices, you won’t need to worry about any additional costs.
Maximizing Dental Benefits
Making the most of your dental benefits is easy, but it surprisingly involves visiting the dentist more often. Because preventive dentistry receives the highest amount of insurance coverage from Cigna plans, when you visit us every six months for dental checkups and teeth cleanings, we partner with you to maintain the healthiest smile. These regular visits reduce your risk for oral health issues that require more advanced treatments and receive less insurance coverage. It’s a win for your smile and your budget.
